Changing careers can be a big step. You’ll need to consider transferrable skills and make sure you’re able to find another job that pays the bills. But, while a lot goes into changing careers, sometimes it is a step worth taking. This could be the case if you spot any of these red flags associated with your current career:

  • You’re only there for the money: While earning a paycheck is an important motivation to work, it shouldn’t be the only motivation to work. You also need to enjoy the time spent at your job. If you’re working for money only, chances are good you’ll be miserable during the whole time you’re at work and likely to end up just doing the minimum necessary not to get fired. This isn’t good for your career trajectory or your happiness since you spend so much time at work.
  • Your career is impacting your self-esteem: If your career is making you feel bad about yourself, it is time for a change right away. You don’t deserve to feel as though you’re not good at what you do and you don’t want your self-esteem to take a lasting hit just because you’re unhappy at your current job.
  • You dream of a different career: You have just one life to live and if you have been dreaming about doing something different with yours, you are just wasting time if you don’t make the effort to at least try. You don’t want to look back at your life and feel that you gave up on your dreams and simply settled by sticking with a job you had because it was comfortable and easy. Instead, challenge yourself to take your career in hand and create the life you want.
